Elering analyzes possible alternative scenarios in order to offer capacity to Balticconnector pipeline during maintenance works in Latvia in May

The effects of the maintenance works on the Latvian gas transmission network to Balticconnector have been clarified. The length of the effects has shortened since the previous announcement, and according to current information the duration of the restricted capacity is from 1 May 2020 until 31 May 2020.

The Estonian gas and electricity transmission system operator Elering has also analyzed the possibilities to offer partial capacity to the Balticconnector pipeline from Estonia to Finland during the maintenance works planned by Latvian gas transmission system operator Conexus Baltic Grid. The maintenance work will lead to an outage on the Tallinn-Vireši gas pipeline in Estonia in May. Using the Värska-Rakvere-Kiili-Paldiski-route is a technically challenging but possible solution to offer some capacity during the maintenance break. The potential capacity in Balticconnector depends on the technically available capacity and nominations made by market participants to Värska entry point as well as on other possible limitations in the Estonian transmission network. Elering and Gasgrid Finland are cooperating to investigate how much capacity will be available at Balticconnector during the outage and will announce the results as soon as possible.

Elering has on April 3 in two urgent market messages (UMM) updated the Balticconnector capacity values during the maintenance work in Latvia in May. You can find the market messages here: https://dashboard.elering.ee/en/umm/gas

The maintenance work scheduled by Elering on 27 April 2020 – 3 May 2020 has been postponed to a later date due to coronavirus.

Gas supply to the Finnish gas market during the maintenance work is secured by the import from Russia through the Imatra entry point.
