Gasgrid welcomes Finnish government’s mid-term review that signals for strong focus on economic growth and aims at making Finland most attractive country in the EU for investments.
Decisions made in the Finnish Government’s mid-term review reinforce Gasgrid’s strategy and support the company’s objective to promote the creation of a new hydrogen industry in Finland. Finland’s hydrogen economy holds enormous potential to grow the national economy, create and maintain jobs, reduce emissions and generate prosperity for Finland.
In 2022, Gasgrid received a mandate from the Finnish government to develop the national hydrogen infrastructure, which, through the establishment of a hydrogen market and infrastructure, enables new investments and job creation, and supports Finland’s energy security and self-sufficiency. The mandate is integral to Gasgrid’s strategy, the aim of which is to promote Finland’s hydrogen economy.
The decisions made by the Government’s mid-term review support Gasgrid’s objective to accelerate the development of regional hydrogen valleys and build a national hydrogen infrastructure in the early 2030s.
Gasgrid’s strategy for 2024–2026 focuses on developing a multi-gas platform that supports the use of low-emission gases, such as green hydrogen and synthetic methane. Biobased carbon dioxide produced in Finland is a raw material for many hydrogen derivatives. Additionally, the mid-term review identifies the gas system’s ability to support the electricity market, for example, through increased flexibility.
“Decisions by the government’s mid-term review support Gasgrid’s strategy to promote the development of a hydrogen economy in Finland. The company’s goal is for the hydrogen economy to maximise added value to Finland’s national economy. Industrial hydrogen valleys and transmission infrastructure also enable regional business development. Our primary objectives are increased value-added industry investments, high value-added exports, growth in technology and service companies, and developing the hydrogen market in order to accelerate Finland’s hydrogen industry,” says Gasgrid’s CEO Olli Sipilä.
