Gasgrid is committed to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals in its operations and has incorporated them into its sustainability program. On the anniversary of the Sustainable Development Goals on September 25, 2025, we will demonstrate our commitment to concrete actions towards the Agenda 2030 goals. The greatest sustainability impacts of Gasgrid’s own operations are related to reducing methane emissions and developing a transmission system that enables the supply of renewable gases. Gasgrid also supports the energy transition towards a lower-emission and more sustainable future through investments in gas transmission infrastructure, such as hydrogen pipelines.
On the anniversary of the UN Sustainable Development Goals on September 25, 2025, a global flagging campaign will be organized, in which thousands of organizations will demonstrate their commitment to the Agenda 2030 program for sustainable development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Gasgrid is committed to these goals as part of its Global Compact membership and has taken them into account in its sustainability program.

How we promote the goals in practice
Gasgrid’s sustainability work is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which guide our operations in an ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable direction. Below are examples of how we promote the goals in practice:
- SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy:
We develop and maintain a gas transmission system that enables the supply of renewable gases and supports the energy transition towards a low-emission future. - SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure:
We invest in infrastructure and innovation, such as hydrogen pipelines and biogas transmission capacity, which enable the use of cleaner energy. - SDG 13: Climate action:
Our goal is a carbon-neutral methane system covering the gas transmission network and LNG terminal by 2035. We reduce methane emissions and report on climate impacts transparently. - SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production:
We promote the circular economy and energy efficiency and encourage our personnel and stakeholders to make responsible choices. - SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth:
We invest in the development of our personnel’s skills, equality, and a safe working environment. - SDG 17:
We actively cooperate with stakeholders, customers, and international networks to achieve the sustainable development goals on a broad scale.
Gasgrid employees are committed to sustainable choices at work and in their free time
Inspired by SDG Flag Day, we asked our personnel about their everyday responsible actions. The responses highlighted small and large everyday choices that promote sustainable development both at work and in leisure time.
In working life, the sustainability of Gasgrid employees is reflected in their commitment to extensive stakeholder cooperation and responsible practices. Concrete examples of this include the launch of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) phase for the planned hydrogen pipeline, the creation of a carbon neutrality roadmap for the gas transmission network and LNG terminal, organizing stakeholder events such as landowner meetings to promote transparent and active dialogue, and setting sustainability targets for hydrogen and methane gas pipeline projects.
Sustainability is also evident in the work, for example, in the consideration of the use of energy-intensive artificial intelligence, compliance with good governance practices, and acting as a fair colleague.
In their free time, many said they recycle and compost, minimize food waste, and vegetarian food and library services. When it comes to transportation, they try to choose environmentally friendly options such ascycling, walking, public transportation, and when driving is necessary, they prefer biogas cars or electric vehicles, for example. Unnecessary purchases are avoided, clothes and goods are recycled, and high-quality, durable products are favored. Efforts are made to limit air travel, and responsible companies are preferred when shopping. In addition, donations are made to charity, and children are taught to make responsible choices.
Together towards a sustainable future
Sustainable Development Flag Day reminds us that every sustainable action, big or small, brings us closer to our sustainable development goals. The everyday choices made by Gasgrid employees and the strategic choices made by the company show that sustainability is linked to everyday activities. Small streams create a large flow that is important for both the environment and the community.
You can also find inspiration for sustainable actions in Gasgrid’s The Changers podcast (in Finnish), which discusses, among other things, how to manage change in n practice and how sustainability can be used to grow business. Gasgrid’s CEO Olli Sipilä is joined on the podcast by Lindström’s Strategy and Responsibility Director Kati Pallasaho.
