From transmission networks to energy platforms

In our vision, gas infrastructure can be used in the future to transmit synthetic methane produced with wind or solar power and, following further investment, possibly hydrogen. Synthetic gases could also be a part of the solution to the flexible combining of the various sectors.

Synthetic gas can be produced with technologies such as power-to-gas where renewable electricity is used to separate hydrogen from water. Carbon dioxide obtained from air or other sources is then used to methanate the hydrogen into methane.

Variable wind conditions and cloudiness are challenges faced particularly in wind and solar power production. With development of power-to-gas technology, these electricity generation methods could be used in the future to produce gas for storage and transmission in the gas network.

We believe that the future will see transmission networks turning increasingly into energy platforms.
