Gas consumption decreased since last week due to lower electricity prices and milder weather conditions – Gasgrid Finland continues to emphasize the importance of minimizing imbalances in the current market situation

Last week, coldest weather conditions of this winter so far were experienced, when temperatures reached -20 degrees celcius all the way in southern Finland. Gas consumption exceeded 55 GWh/day, which is greater than Balticconnector’s capacity from Estonia towards Finland. The quantities of gas supplied from Hamina LNG terminal and proactive operational actions by Gasgrid Finland ensured that the Finnish gas system was, and continues to be well balanced. Gasgrid Finland thanks all market participants for their balance management during the coldest winter days.

During last weekend, the weather warmed up and electricity prices fell clearly compared to the beginning of the week, resulting in gas consumption decreasing to 27-35 GWh/day. In the current market situation, gas consumption can vary strongly both up and downwards on a daily or even intraday basis. Because of this, Gasgrid Finland continues to emphasize the importance of staying in balance.
