According to the Government’s decision in principle, Finland aims for a leading position in the hydrogen economy in Europe. The Finnish government has given Gasgrid the task of promoting the development of the national hydrogen network, international infrastructure cooperation, and the hydrogen market in Finland and the surrounding area as quickly as possible. The company’s goal is to quickly create good and predictable investment conditions in Finland, especially for hydrogen production and the further refining industry that uses it.

The hydrogen economy brings with it new investments, jobs, energy independence and security of supply and thereby supports the well-being and development of the whole of Finland. The transfer and storage of hydrogen play an important role in enabling the hydrogen economy. Hydrogen networks create new business opportunities for various actors through the development of new value chains, products and services.

Gasgrid Vetyverkot Oy was founded at the end of 2022 to promote Gasgrid’s role as a developer of the hydrogen economy. Gasgrid is now accelerating the development work with concrete measures and has appointed the board of Gasgrid Vetyverkot Oy. Kai-Petteri Purhonen, who also serves as the chairman of the board, Hannu Linna, Kalle Reponen and Miapetra Kumpula-Natri have been appointed as the company’s board members. The members of the new board have strong experience in the transformation of the energy sector, the development of industrial businesses and the promotion of the green transition also throughout Europe. Olli Sipilä is the company’s CEO and Sara Kärki the Chief Operating Officer.

One of the focus areas of Gasgrid Finland Oy’s strategy is the development of future transmission platforms for gaseous energy and raw materials. We develop the company’s success factors to implement the hydrogen and clean gas markets and sector integration.
