Gasgrid Finland authorized to grant national and European EECS guarantees of origin

Gasgrid Finland operates as the administrator of the Gas and Hydrogen Guarantee of Origin Register. A guarantee of origin refers to an electronic document serving as proof to an end user that a certain energy share or amount has been produced with renewable sources. Guarantees of origin are granted to gas and hydrogen produced in Finland with renewable energy sources.

The Finnish Energy Agency has confirmed the new service terms of the guarantee of origin service, which came into effect on February 5, 2024. Gasgrid Finland has also been accepted as a member of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) Gas Scheme on 20 February 2024 meaning that Gasgrid Finland will in the future grant both national and European EECS (European Energy Certificate System) guarantees of origin.

EECS guarantees the reliability and compatibility of guarantees of origin with other gas and hydrogen countries belonging to the EECS system, currently including Finland, Latvia, Austria and Spain. Other European countries are also preparing to become members. Joining the EECS system is a big step towards European cooperation and the development of the clean gas market, enabling electronic transfers of guarantees of origin between EECS countries.
