The recently published Annual Report 2023 describes Gasgrid’s business, strategy, and sustainability progress in 2023, summarizing the achievements of the completed strategic period.
Gasgrid’s first strategy period ended at the close of 2023. During this strategy period, the company, which was established four years ago, consolidated its role as part of the national cross-border energy system and laid the foundation for the hydrogen economy. In 2023, Gasgrid’s subsidiary launched the operation of an LNG terminal ship, ensuring Finland’s energy security
and gas supply even in exceptional situations.
–The year 2023 was a continuation of the previous year’s energy crisis seen in both Finland and across Europe. Our success was attributed to systematic risk management, seamless collaboration with stakeholders, and committed and motivated personnel. These factors played a crucial role in advancing our hydrogen projects, launching the operation of the LNG terminal ship, and repairing the Balticconnector pipeline damage, says Olli Sipilä, CEO of Gasgrid.
–Throughout the organization, we have integrated sustainability as an integral part of our operations, and this has been reflected in our personnel’s strong commitment to our sustainability programme. Alongside high customer and stakeholder satisfaction, I am pleased that employee satisfaction and willingness to recommend the company as an employer are at a high level, Sipilä says.
The year 2024 marks the start of Gasgrid’s new three-year strategy period.
–We are taking an increasingly active role in shaping Finland’s energy system to enable economic growth and security in the future. Hydrogen and other clean domestic gases play a crucial role in the future energy system, for example, in the form of downstream products and as sources of balancing power. We support Finland on its way to becoming the engine of the hydrogen economy, Sipilä explains.
The Annual Report has been published as an accessible PDF report on the Publications page. In addition to the year, strategy, business, and sustainability overview, the report includes a Corporate Governance Statement, a Remuneration report, and the Report by the Board of Directors and Financial statements. The report adheres to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) with reference reporting framework, and the sustainability section of the report has been verified for 20 indicators. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will apply to Gasgrid starting from the beginning of 2025, and reporting will be developed in stages.
The annual report was published in Finnish at the end of March 2024.
