Gasgrid Finland joins the European Resilience Alliance as founding member to advance clean energy transition

Twelve leading European energy and industrial companies launched a new industrial alliance, the European Resilience Alliance, in Brussels on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. The alliance(Moving to external website.) seeks to strengthen the impact of investments in the clean energy transition, the hydrogen economy and hydrogen derivatives, while promoting the European Union’s energy security, industrial competitiveness and decarbonisation goals.

The alliance’s White Paper(Moving to external website.) was formally presented at a ceremony held at the European Parliament, in the presence of Members of the European Parliament, to Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition.

European Union must stay committed to its Clean Energy Transition Goals

Speaking at the event, Gasgrid Finland’s CEO Olli Sipilä underlined Finland’s proactive preparedness and the importance of a diversified energy system in reinforcing the EU’s resilience and energy self-sufficiency.

“Strengthening Europe’s industrial and societal resilience must begin immediately. Volatile imported fossil fuels cannot form the backbone of our industrial competitiveness in the decades ahead. Green, clean European energy represents a major opportunity. We have the resources – now we must make them available. New energy infrastructure is essential to enable this transformation. A hydrogen backbone infrastructure is the true game changer, lowering costs and unlocking investment opportunities at scale,” Sipilä said.

The European Resilience Alliance emphasises the importance of cooperation between EU institutions, Member States, regions and especially industries in developing the full hydrogen economy value chain and utilising regional strengths.

Finland stands out in the EU’s clean energy transition landscape as a particularly competitive environment for hydrogen- and hydrogen derivative-based production. Simultaneously, the markets for Finnish investments are largely located in Central Europe, highlighting the importance of cross-border cooperation, and the role of single market and infrastructures as enablers of the hydrogen economy.
