Gas Business

The gas business comprises the existing methane gas transmission network. Our transmission network currently carries mainly methane, but in the future also e‑methane and increasing volumes of biogas.

Gas transmission network

Finland’s gas transmission network is approximately 1,250 kilometres long and, with the exception of the Tampere pipeline branch, is located in southern Finland. The high-pressure gas transmission system consists of interconnected natural gas pipelines and associated facilities designed for the transmission or distribution of natural gas.

Finland’s gas transmission platform includes one interconnection point, the Balticconnector, which links the Finnish and Estonian transmission systems. In addition, two LNG terminals are connected to the gas network. Renewable gases are fed into Finland’s gas system through several renewable methane production facilities.

The gas system is not static – it evolves and develops continuously. In the coming years, we expect domestic renewable methane production to increase manyfold.”
