Security of supply

Ensuring gas transmission and security of supply are at the core of our operations.

We operate as a the system operator responsible for the gas transmission system, and our task is to ensure the functioning of Finland’s gas transmission system and, through it, the stability of the energy system and security of supply for society in all circumstances. Security of supply is based on professional maintenance, monitoring, and operation of the transmission system. Security of supply is also linked to our role as a critical infrastructure operator in society – energy supply must be secured in both normal and exceptional circumstances.

The security of natural gas supply has been excellent for decades. In 2025, the security of gas transmission was 100%, with no unplanned supply interruptions. Unpredictable supply disruptions are extremely rare, and the most common reason for planned temporary supply interruptions is maintenance and modification work that is planned in advance

Our contingency planning covers both disruptions under normal conditions and exceptional circumstances under the Emergency Powers Act, and we prepare for disruptions and exceptional circumstances through measures such as reserve capacity and emergency exercises.

The Inkoo LNG terminal plays an important role in security of supply as an alternative gas import route. The terminal’s established position as part of the regional energy system and its established use support the continuity and stability of the entire society’s energy system.
