Our sustainability is founded on materiality. It is based on a double materiality assessment that we conducted for the first time in 2024 and updated in 2025. Double materiality means that we review our impacts from two angles:
This is how we ensure that we account for both social responsibility and business risks and opportunities. For the double materiality assessment, we identified key stakeholders on which we have identified or potential impacts, or which have sustainability-related expectations and demands towards us. In addition, we identified stakeholders which impact Gasgrid’s opportunities to succeed and develop a sustainable business. The materiality assessment work was based on extensive dialogue with these various stakeholders. The assessment also utilised sector-specific reviews, as well as internal and external stakeholder interviews. The following topics were identified as material based on the assessment: climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems, own workforce, workers in the value chain, affected communities and business conduct. Furthermore, energy security and security of supply were identified as community-specific topics outside the standards. The materiality of an impact was assessed based on its scale (how severe or beneficial the impact is), scope (how widespread the impact is), irremediability (to what extent a negative impact can be remediated) and likelihood. Actual impacts were assessed based on the first three dimensions and potential impacts also included likelihood. Financial materiality was assessed based on the likelihood and financial magnitude of the impact, either in euros or in qualitative terms. The double materiality work steers Gasgrid’s sustainability efforts and targets.
