Audit confirms compliance of Gasgrid’s Guarantees of Origin service – Domain Protocol updated

Gasgrid has updated its Domain Protocol for European Energy Certificate System (EECS) GOs for gas and hydrogen based on observations identified during the first audit conducted by the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB). The audit was successfully completed, confirming that Gasgrid’s GO service operates in compliance with applicable national legislation and the EECS Rules.

The updates to the Domain Protocol are technical and do not affect customers’ day-to-day operations. The updated Domain Protocol is available on Gasgrid’s website.

Comprehensive revision of the Domain Protocol underway

In addition to the technical updates resulting from the audit, Gasgrid has initiated a comprehensive revision of the Domain Protocol. The revision will take into account changes to GO legislation as well as the implementation of the GO standard.

The revised Domain Protocol is expected to be completed in late 2026. The updated document will be made available for public consultation and submitted to the Finnish Energy Authority for approval in accordance with the standard approval process.

Clarifications to Ex-Domain cancellation procedures

Gasgrid has updated its instructions concerning Ex-Domain cancellations.

An Ex-Domain cancellation is a procedure used when a GO cannot be transferred between national registries through the AIB Hub. In such cases, the GO is cancelled manually in the registry of the issuing country, and its end use is recognised in Finland through a separate administrative procedure.

To support this process, Gasgrid has published an Excel template for submitting end-use information. Account Holders may also use their own Excel template, provided that it includes all required information in a corresponding and easily transferable format.

At present, Ex-Domain cancellations are only possible from Denmark to Finland. GOs cancelled through the Ex-Domain procedure are subject to the same rules and requirements as Guarantees of Origin held in the registry.

The management of Ex-Domain cancellation data and the submission of end-use declarations are permitted only for individuals registered in Gasgrid’s GO registry G-REX as AH Root Administrators or AH Account Administrators for their organisation. Alternatively, individuals may act on behalf of their organisation if they hold a valid authorisation from the company appointing them as an authorised contact person.

Further information and all updated documents are available on the Gasgrid Guarantees of Origin service webpage
