The EU Hydrogen Mechanism: Commission has launched its first call for interest to connect buyers and suppliers

On 12 November, the Commission launched the first call for interest under Hydrogen Mechanism (as part of EU Energy & Raw Materials Platform) to connect potential suppliers and buyers of hydrogen and its derivatives

The Hydrogen Mechanism is designed to empower companies by connecting and aggregating demand and supply, informing infrastructure development and linking with the financial solutions. Thus, Hydrogen Mechanism aims to tackle market uncertainty, provide transparency and visibility on potential commercial partners, support infrastructure development, address funding gaps, and unlock business opportunities.

The mechanism is targeted to European off-takers of hydrogen and its derivatives, European and global suppliers of hydrogen and its derivatives, infrastructure operators, and financial institutions. The mechanism covers both renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and their derivatives, such as ammonia, eSAF, methanol, and e-methane.

At the first round, suppliers are first invited to submit supply offers. This is followed by invitation to off-takers to express their interest.

Next steps:

Submission phase: 12 Nov 2025 – 2 Jan 2026. Suppliers submit supply offers.

Publication of call for interest: 19 Jan 2026. Anonymised information sheets about supply offers published.

Expression of interest: 19 Jan 2026 – 20 Mar 2026. Off-takers can express interest.

Results: 31 Mar 2026. Available to participants of the call.

Participation requires registration on the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform (no costs, no obligation to participate).
