The LNG carrier Solaris has brought a full cargo of LNG to Floating LNG Terminal Finland’s Exemplar vessel in Inkoo. The loading went as planned and the gas was fed into the gas network for use by industry, energy production and households.

According to the plan there will be 1-2 vessels per month arriving to the terminal  So far, the terminal has already delivered the equivalent of an entire LNG ship (1,000 GWh) of gas to the transmission network. The amount corresponds in terms of energy to the annual consumption of approximately 50,000 electrically heated houses.

”Almost the entire capacity of the current gas year has been booked. All the spring and summer slots in the terminal have been sold, and one slot in August and one in September can still be booked. We also opened on the 17th of April the possibility of booking terminal capacity for the next gas year which is starting the 1st of October and 35 slots are available for the entire gas year. The booking window is open until mid-May. The terminal is working well and the operations have been successful,” says Satu Mattila, CEO of Gasgrid’s Floating LNG Terminal Finland Oy.

Floating LNG Terminal Finland Oy is a subsidiary of Gasgrid Finland, founded in 2022, which operates floating LNG terminal. The LNG terminal started operating in January 2023 in the port of Inkoo. The terminal ensures gas supply not only in Finland but also in the Baltics. The ship’s liquefied natural gas is vaporized into gas and fed into Gasgrid’s gas network for delivery to industry and energy plants.

LNG is supplied from the global gas market. Reloading typically takes about a day. The ship’s vaporization capacity is more than 40 TWh per year, exceeding Finland’s annual natural gas usage requirement, which has typically been around 25 TWh per year.
